  • After You

After You Efrat Rasner Shefa Producers Ayelet Kait, Amir Harel Lab Edition: 12 , 2024 SCENE PITCH Production Lama Films Country Israel SYNOPSIS Yula (45) unexpectedly loses her husband Amir in an accident. After his death, his organs are donated. She wants to meet the man who received her husband's heart, but he refuses to be in contact. Through illegal means, she obtains the details of the recipient—Gabriel (57), a piano teacher, and decides to take piano lessons from him. In the piano lessons, they gradually open up to each other, but Yula's lie stands between them, growing larger as their bond tightens. Yula's web of lies will expand, and she will lose control of her life. When the truth comes to light, Yula will have to confront the immense pain and deal with her loss for the first time. DIRECTOR'S NOTE My existential fear of losing someone I love led me to write this script, and I dealt with the question - Can you suspend the farewell? This question is Yula’s unconscious wish, the film’s heroine, a woman who loses her husband. At the end of Yula's journey, she will have to feel the deep pain of her loss in order to say goodbye and set herself free, and keep on living. The film I aspire to create is narrative based, on the one hand, but uses bold cinematic viewpoints and unique scenes to offer a poetic layer that stems from the concrete story and allows moments of contemplation - that capture the themes of the film – loss, love and grace. • Rita Borodiyanski

Crossing the Line Screenwriter: Rita Borodiyanski Producer: Osnat Saraga , Paramount Israel (Ananey Studios) Language: Hebrew Format: 8 Episodes x 35 Minutes Send PITCHDECK LOGLINE How low must one go in order to climb up, when planning for the future is considered a luxury? Street-smart Liz finds family and future at the most unexpected place - checkpoints on the West Bank-Israeli border. SYNOPSIS The story of Liz Angel (22), who starts working at the checkpoints – where only the truly desperate work. For her it’s a perfect job: her co-workers come from similar backgrounds as her, and the position includes free food, transportation and housing, in a small shared trailer which soon turns into her own little slice of heaven. Her genuine home keeps pulling her back in, and her parents’ piling debts demand. What starts out as a small scale smuggling from the West Bank into Israel, will soon blow out of proportion. WRITER'S STATEMENT Crossing The Line is inspired by my experience as a soldier inspecting at checkpoints. It offers a look at young people today, coming from impoverished backgrounds on both sides of the border, willing to do whatever it takes for a better life. They are risking their jobs, national security and loved ones’ safety. Considering others is a privilege to those busy surviving. It’s a story of survival on life’s sidelines. Bringing this world to the screen from a feminine POV is a mission to me. ABOUT THE WRITER Director, screenwriter and casting director. Two-time nominee of the Ophir Awards. Her short film, “TIME OUT”, won the L.A Holly Shorts Best Thriller Award and was nominated for an Ophir Award. Today, Rita is about to start filming her debut full feature film “YOUNG MOTHER” – which won grants and awards and was developed at the Nantes Film Workshop (France). “CHECKPOINTS”, full length film, has won various awards -Haifa Film Festival, Cyprus ME Film Festival, WIFTI International and Sam Spiegel Film Lab, as well as receiving the Rabinovitch Fund development grant. PRODUCER'S STATEMENT Rita’s story is based on her own, not simple life experience. Rita's POV is a unique feminine look that brings a new voice of young people who have under zero chances nowdays in Israel to make something of their lives. The story setting is placed brilliantly by Rita, at the checkpoints– an explosive point of emotions in the heart of the conflict of our region. Rita has won the right to tell this story. • The Vacation

The Vacation Dénes Nagy Producers Sára László, Olivier Dubois, Marcell Gerő, Jean-Laurent Csinidis Lab Edition: 12 , 2024 SCENE PITCH Production Campfilm, Hungary; Films De Force Majeure, France; Novak Prod, Belgium Country Hungary, France, Belgium SYNOPSIS A Hungarian farm worker in his 40s goes on an organized trip to Provence with his wife. It's the first time they've been abroad, and they speak no language other than their own. During the trip, they make friends with another Hungarian couple, who seem to be more experienced travelers than they are. While his wife is excited by this new acquaintance, he feels more and more lost. He observes his wife slowly drifting away from him, which triggers an inner voyage of self-discovery. DIRECTOR'S NOTE The basic premise of the film is that it will be working with an amateur cast: to build on the presence of these characters, to record their inner uncertainties. Another important element is the comedy which stems from the protagonists’ ignorance. Our hearts open to these people: they are lost characters who try to stand their ground, but in the meantime, attempt to cover up their clumsiness. What can we do with realities that are alien to us? What do we do with the foreignness of ourselves? ABOUT THE FILMMAKER Award-winning scriptwriter-director Dénes Nagy graduated from the University of Theatre and Film Arts of Budapest in 2009. His debut feature "Natural Light" had its world premiere at the 2021 Berlinale where it won the Silver Bear Award for Best Director as well as the European Film Awards Best Production Design Award. He has made several short films, both documentary and fiction, which were screened and awarded at many significant national and international festivals. ABOUT THE CO-WRITER PRODUCERS Sára László, Olivier Dubois, Marcell Gerő, Jean-Laurent Csinidis Sára László and Marcell Gerő founded the Budapest based production company, Campfilm in 2007. The company’s credits include "Soft Rain" by Dénes Nagy (45th Directors’ Fortnight in Cannes), "Cain’s Children" by Marcell Gerő (62nd San Sebastian IFF), "The Euphoria of Being" by Réka Szabó (Grand Prix of the 30th Semaine de la Critique of the Locarno International Film festival) and "Natural Light" by Dénes Nagy (72nd Berlinale Competition Silver Bear Award for Best Director, EFA Best Production Design Award). In 2010, Jean Laurent Csinidis co-created Films de Force Majeure, a production company focusing on auteur films and international collaborations. He has produced or co-produced 30 films, most of which have been shown in Cannes, Berlin, Locarno, Venice, as well as at the IDFA, Visions du Réel, Rotterdam, Cinéma du Réel or Annecy.
