Kimerling Kimerling Screenwriter: Marek Rozenbaum Producer/s Marek Rozenbaum , Transfax Productions Language: Yiddish, English, Hebrew Format: 8 Episodes x 45 Minutes Genre Drama, Comedy Send PITCHDECK LOGLINE An ultra-orthodox detective, is sent by his rabbi to solve a crime far beyond his reach - only to discover it is part of a much larger conspiracy that threatens his community and his life. SYNOPSIS One day, a mysterious, violent break-in unsettles a closed, tight-knit Orthodox Jewish neighborhood governed by strict religious codes and silence. The Rabbi rules: “No police.” He calls in Kimerling (37) and gives him the case. Everyone assumes it was a burglary gone wrong, but Kimerling senses something far bigger is at work. A beloved rabbi dies from a mysterious snakebite, a key witness vanishes, the victim remembers nothing, and the community closes ranks — until a little girl breaks the code of silence with a sketch of the suspect. As Kimerling and his assistant, Meshulam (a journalist), dig deeper, they uncover a ruthless, tightly organized gang that exploits the internal rules of the Orthodox Jewish community, ruling it through fear, obedience, and violence. At the same time, an unexpected love story with Frumi (31), a mikvah attendant, cracks Kimerling’s emotional armor, exposing his vulnerability within a world that leaves little room for intimacy. WRITER'S STATEMENT From the very first moment I read the book, I felt a deep connection—this was a story I had to turn into a television series and share with a wide audience, both in Israel and around the world. The character of Kimerling - an Orthodox Jewish detective in the closed world of Mea Shearim, an insular ultra-Orthodox neighborhood in Jerusalem - immediately captivated me. He’s a stranger in the neighborhood, but also a stranger to himself. His journey to solve mysteries is, at its core, a journey of self-discovery. The series blends suspense, sharp Jewish humor, emotional longing, and a combination of a detective story and a love story. But Kimerling is not just about the character—it's also about the world he inhabits. Jerusalem, as portrayed in this series, will be captured in a noir-inspired visual style we've never seen before: its winter light, narrow alleys, reflections in puddles, warm hidden synagogues, and the colorful figures that fill the screen. Every detail turns the city into a living character, the very soul of the series. Ziv Berkovich, my incredible DOP (who shot for Natalie Portman, Netflix, and more) will join me in bringing this vision to life. While the story is indeed a detective mystery, it is equally an intimate journey in search of truth, justice, meaning, and love. Kimerling (Jewish-American) is profoundly local and strikingly universal, touching on the questions we all ask ourselves: Where do I belong? And how far will I go for the truth? We officially acquired the rights to adapt the novel for television. I want to turn Kimerling into a successful series, because I believe deeply in its cinematic and emotional power, and because I truly feel it can—and should—resonate with audiences both in Israel and around the world, especially in these complex times. ABOUT THE WRITER Sharon Benjamin Bar Ziv is an award-winning writer and director who started his screenwriting career with writing for the hit comedy TV series Shemesh and Platfus. His debut feature, Room 514 (2012), was selected for Cannes, won the prize for Best New Narrative Director at the Tribeca Film Festival, and screened in over 35 international festivals. His second feature, Good Morning Son (2019), premiered at the Haifa International Film Festival, was distributed in the US and Europe, and won the German Film Association award. In 2024, Sharon completed Wild Urge, his first English-language feature. The film’s World Premiere was held in Sofia. PRODUCER'S STATEMENT The series is built on a clear, recognizable high concept: a proven fusion between the classic mystery engine of Agatha Christie and the emotional, community-driven world of Shtisel — a combination that significantly reduces creative uncertainty, clearly defines its target audience, and substantially increases its commercial potential. The project is based on a bestselling existing IP: a novel by Asher Kravitz, an author whose other book has already been adapted into a Hollywood feature film. This provides strong brand equity, lowers risk, and strengthens market confidence. The series aligns with a broad international trend, supported by research, showing growing interest in distinctive Jewish content across both the United States and Europe. It offers a fresh, intelligent, and entertaining window into a closed community that has rarely been portrayed through a contemporary detective-comedy lens. Throughout my career, I have led numerous international collaborations with European and global producers and broadcasters, and Kimmerling was developed from the outset with international co-productions and global markets in mind. The show’s concentrated, insular setting enables relatively low production costs while delivering a strong identity, an intelligent entertainment tone, and high return-on-investment potential. We are seeking international partners for original, accessible, one-of-a-kind content — driven by soul, humor, and a mystery that can travel across borders. PRODUCER PROFILE Mark Rozenbaum is an Israeli film producer, and one of the most influential figures in Israeli cinema. Born in Poland in 1952, he immigrated to Israel in 1968 and studied film in the inaugural class of Tel Aviv University’s Film Department. In 1988, Rozenbaum founded Transfax Productions, through which he has produced over 70 feature films, shaping the modern Israeli cinematic canon. Five of his films won the Ophir Award for Best Film, Israel’s highest cinematic honor. Rosenbaum also served as Chairman of the Israeli Producers Association, leading the fight for original television productions, and later as Chairman of the Israeli Film Academy. In 2001, he received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Jerusalem Film Festival. In recent years, he has continued to create and act, earning an Ophir nomination for his role in The Death of Cinema and My Father Too (2025). Safe Harbor Safe Harbor Screenwriters: Yoav Roeh, Aurit Zamir Producer/s Yoav Roeh, Aurit Zamir , Gum Films Language: Hebrew Format: 8 Episodes x 40 Minutes Genre Drama, Thriller Send PITCHDECK LOGLINE Two Mossad agents pose as a married couple seeking to foster a nine-year-old Lebanese boy. The child is their gateway to recruit his mother; a woman deeply embedded in Hezbollah's organization. SYNOPSIS Mossad agents Yulia and Ori, late 20’s, are dispatched by their commander Amiram (60), to a peaceful Greek island. Their mission is to pose as a couple and foster Amin (9), a Lebanese survivor of the IDF missile attack which killed his father, an high ranking Hezbollah member. Amin was pulled from the rubble by his mother Salma (29), who then smuggled her traumatized son to a UN refuge in Greece, which promises a safe harbor for children from war zones. Yulia and Ori give Amin a home and gradually develop an emotional bond with him. This helps them gain access to Salma who comes to know and trust them. Unbeknownst to her, she supplies them with crucial information regarding a Hezbollah-planned attack. As the mission deepens, something else begins to shift. Caring for the child forges a genuine bond between Yulia and Ori. What began as sexual tension in their first meeting evolves into intimacy and emotional closeness. They lose the distance and clarity the mission demands, failing to notice that their cover has been compromised. As the operation unravels, Salma discovers the truth about them and is coerced into collaboration when they use a visit with Amin as leverage. When Salma is finally able to come to the island for the much-awaited visit with Amin, a Hezbollah elite unit assassinates her, and abducts Amin. Apparently, they discovered her breach of loyalty. Amin is once again orphaned and the agents are left missing key information regarding the upcoming attack. Haunted by guilt, Yulia and Ori break away from command, choosing to save Amin from his kidnappers. But then they discover a devastating truth- Amin's biological father, a high-ranking terrorist presumed dead—is alive. The couple are now torn between loyalty to their country and their new “family” and must confront the most agonizing question: What truly serves the child's best interest? WRITER'S STATEMENT SAFE HARBOR is led by two strong protagonists who feel a deep sense of belonging and loyalty to their country, who are willing to risk their lives for it. For whom the country is their true family. During the season, despite themselves, they create their own makeshift, improvised family, which starts through deception but develops into true emotion. As the needs of these two “families” conflict, our characters question the truths and ideologies their identities are built on. Through this narrative setup, we are interested in exploring the idea of family, loyalty and betrayal. As Israelis, like our characters, we are familiar with having complex relationships with our national identities. We believe these questions resonate with viewers worldwide today, Character driven and propulsive, SAFE HARBOR will explore the deep, emotional journeys of its characters through a twisty spy plot. The series uses the contrast between the cold, sterile world of espionage and the warm, hopeful moments of the couple's personal journey to visually underscore its themes. The dramatic contrast between the fast-paced tone and the psychological complexities will make this series as thought-provoking as entertaining. PRODUCER'S STATEMENT Shot fully on location in Greece, SAFE HARBOR will allow us to observe the complex reality of our region seemingly from the outside, from the safety of a peaceful Greek island, but in fact while looking deeply from within. The series throws a light on the lives of children in war zones, a topic which has become painfully relevant to us in the past years. Traumatized, orphaned, hurt- children are the most vulnerable victims of their parents’ wars and conflicts. SAFE HARBOR will reveal the cynical mechanisms behind the war machine, in which one child, Amin, is being used as collateral. During the season, our characters will have to face their own experiences as children, address how those shaped them, and lead them to reexamine their loyalties, hopefully giving Amin hope for a different future. Zig-zagging at fast speed between the personal and the national, the show will be as compelling as it will be unsettling, it’s power stemming from viewers connection to the strong characters who will ask themselves- is there a SAFE HARBOR to be found anywhere in this world? Or does that space exist only within their personal identity, within their own family? We look forward to embarking on this project which has a wide international appeal in terms of genre, language as well as tone, while maintaining core values of honest storytelling.
