- Benjamin Freidenberg and Ihab Jadallah
Territory X Territory X Screenwriters: Ayelet Kait and Amir Harel Producer/s Ayelet Kait and Amir Harel , Lama Films Language: Hebrew Format: Send PITCHDECK LOGLINE A family drama about married LGBT Palestinians in East Jerusalem and their families, that focuses on Hussam, a gay, Muslim, Palestinian lawyer, a married father of two, who are all in the process of becoming naturalized Israeli citizens, decides along with his wife, to have the secret male lover he’s kept hidden from everyone, move in with them. SYNOPSIS The series takes place in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of East Jerusalem that borders Bethlehem to the south and Ramallah to the north. The neighborhood’s streets still aren’t considered Israeli territory. With large unpaved areas and public spaces, and unnumbered homes that don’t appear on the map, the Israeli bulldozers start entering the neighborhood and constructing buildings, erecting signs and opening schools that belong to the Israeli ministry of education. All of this takes place while families and homes are being evicted in order to make way for the new construction plan or having been bought out by Jewish settlers and right-wing organizations. The show focuses on a middle-class Palestinian family that’s at an important crossroads in its life – gaining their Israeli citizenship – when an unexpected drama occurs and catches them unprepared. The show’s main character - Hussam - a civil rights lawyer that represents stateless Palestinian clients, is experiencing the most profound personal crisis of his life. After years of hiding, he tells his wife about his relationship with Fuad, a younger man. Manal, a history school teacher at the Beit Hanina high school, isn’t surprised or distraught by his confession, she’s just concerned with how their extended family, neighbors and community might respond. She finds out that Fuad has been over to their house a few times and that the neighbors saw him, and that there’s a rumor going around that Manal and Fuad are having an affair. In order to refute the rumor, Manal has to act fast. Instead of getting divorced or demanding that Hussam break things off with Fuad, Manal and Hussam welcome him into their home and he moves into the small unit in their backyard, in order to keep their relationship and family intact and to prevent any further gossip. They hide Hussam and Fuad’s relationship and present him as one of Hussam’s clients they decided to provide shelter for as a humanitarian gesture. They enjoy the encouragement and support of their inner circles, but their children, Aadil and Hafza (an 11-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl) catch on to what’s really happening in their family right away. The boy defends his parents and Fuad, while the daughter rebels against their narrative and tries to expose their secret. The family finds out about couples and families that share the same lifestyle; that keep a secret from their surroundings, while one of the parents is either a homosexual man or a lesbian woman. Hussam and Fuad find themselves in the secret LGBT circles of Bethlehem and Ramallah, when their secret is revealed to a closed off group of married Palestinian Lesbians and homosexuals that are married to one another for show, or keep the third member of their relationship within the family. These aren’t young people in their 20s, but people with families in their 30s-50s that didn’t run away from home, or move to Tel Aviv or abroad. The identity turmoil they experience is just one part of a larger complex Palestinian drama that’s contains many voices; in the tension between Christians and Muslims, between nationalists and communists, between revolutionaries, activists and conservatists. The characters’ naturalization process includes a declaration of loyalty to the state of Israel and giving up one identity in favor of another, albeit a more promising and financially secure one. But the absurd political, religious, sexual, nationalistic, personal and collective identity confluence - that forces people to fit into a single fixed category, will manifest in this family drama in comical, absurd and touching scenes, that illuminate the family unit in a new, wild, unique and subversive light WRITER'S STATEMENT ABOUT THE WRITERS PRODUCER'S STATEMENT PRODUCER PROFILE PRODUCTION CONTACT DETAILS Back To Participants PARTICIPATION APPLICATION RULES & REGULATIONS PARTICIPANTS OBLIGATIONS PARTICIPATION REGULATION SERIES LAB PARTICIPANTS MENTORS PROFESSIONAL GUESTS JURY PARTICIPATION APPLICATION RULES & REGULATIONS FAQ SERIES LAB FILM LAB MENTORS JURY DECISION MAKERS SCOUTS AND PITCHING PROFESSIONAL GUESTS PARTICIPANTS & PROJECTS LAB FILMS PARTICIPATION APPLICATION PARTICIPANTS OBLIGATIONS RULES & REGULATIONS FILM FAQ FILM LAB HOME TEAM NEWS LABS HOME SERIES LAB WHO'S WHO MENTORS PROFESSIONAL GUESTS JURY ADVISORY BOARD PARTICIPANTS PARTICIPATION APPLICATION RULES & REGULATIONS FAQ

- Manas (Sisters)
Manas (Sisters) Manas (Sisters) Marianna Brennand Fortes Producer Carolina Benevides Lab Edition 9 , 2021 SCENE PITCH Production Country Brazil SYNOPSIS Aware that the future does not hold many options for her in a riverside community on Marajó Island, 13-year-old Marcielle decides to confront the violent machinery that governs her family and the women in her community. DIRECTOR'S NOTE Director’s Note What fascinates me in cinema is the potential to encounter the “other” and how it enables us to see, feel and live in someone else’s shoes. This is why I will have an absolute protagonist, Marcielle – we will be radically on her point of view, seeing only what she sees and hearing only what she hears. As a filmmaker, I want to increase public awareness for such a painful subject matter as sexual abuse of women, especially children and adolescents. In terms of plot, I chose a , a classic narrative with tremendous visual power. Although the abuse scenes are never shown on screen, my intention is to show in a poetic way how the violence impacts on the character perception. Marcielle experiences many conflicts and the film will be with her in her moment of conscious awareness. In the photography I want to show the contrast of the beauty and richness of the region's natural landscape with Marcielle's poor and sad reality. The lush forest with abundant water can be as arid as a desert. A very cinematic environment that hides the unspoken "rules" of its inhabitants. For that “Sisters” will be shot on location, in a riverside community in Amazon Region where this story takes place. Actors’ direction will benefit from that because I’ll be working with actors that will be able to dive into the universe of the film and non-actors that will be comfortable in their habitat. Female characters who interact with Marcielle, will help her to see that is not normal what she is been through and that is possible to put an end to the cycle of abuse. The film will be generous to its characters and their stories, in terms of the length of scenes that reflect the way in which time, and distance, in that part of the world, imprisons its inhabitants. The Handball Coach The Handball Coach Sivan Noam Shimon Producer Benny Fredman Lab Edition 12 , 2024 SCENE PITCH Production Red Films LTD Country Israel SYNOPSIS The moment when Yael "the Bulldozer" Cherni (32) scored the winning goal in the European Handball Championship defined the peak of her career. But it also crushed her knee and left her with excruciating pain and the nickname. The doctors say her career is over, her partner Nofar (30) pleads her to move on, but Yael feels belittled. The only one who believes in her is Sari (17), a troubled goalkeeper in the youth team Yael coaches. Around her, Yael feels strong, worthy, and admired once again. The relationship between the two takes an unexpected dimension. DIRECTOR'S NOTE I was an athlete and the feeling of "I'm a badass" became a key part of my being. Thus, I set out to write a story of a woman who doesn't know who she is without her strength and will do anything to stay on the court. I chose handball, not such a popular sport, and the peripheral town Or-Yehuda, to express the perception that women’s sports are marginal. Hence, many female athletes don't get the appreciation or financial support like their male counterparts. For people who come from marginalized populations, sports can be life changing, if not as a career, then in a "I'm a badass" state of mind.
