The 1st Session of Sam Spiegel International Film Lab's 14th Edition concluded last week in Jerusalem - after an intensive week filled with workshops, masterclasses, tours, dinners and of course - personal working and writing time for each participant with his mentor, on their feature film project. 10 projects from all around the world (Brazil, Austria, Germany, Hungary and Israel) arrived at the Scots House Hotel in Jerusalem, for an exciting week of work alongside their mentors Clare Downs (UK), Jacques Akchoti (France), Thomas Hailer (Germany) and Sari Turgeman (Israel). During the week, the filmmakers went through an A.I. workshop led by Omri Marcus, a walking tour in the Old City of Jerusalem guided by filmmaker Benjamin Freidenberg, and a masterclass with award-winning screenwriter and director Michel Franco. Moshe Rosenthal's film "Tell Me Everything" (developed in our 7th Edition of the International Film Lab) takes place in the 1980s, as pop music soars and AIDS spreads, and tells the story of 12-year-old Boaz who discovers a shattering truth about his beloved father. Myrsini Aristidou's film "Hold on to Me" (developed in our 9th Edition) tells the story of 11-year-old Iris who learns her estranged father, Aris, is back in town for his own father’s funeral. The festival will take place in Utah on January 22–February 1, 2026. Good luck, Moshe and Myrsini! 11/12/25 Film Lab's Alumni to Screen Their Films At Tallinn Black Nights Three alumnus of the Sam Spiegel International Film Lab are screening at the prestigious Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival this year. Congratulations to Shai Carmeli Pollak, whose feature The Sea won the Best Picture award at the Ophir Prizes; to Netalie Braun and her film Oxygen, which won the best feature awards at the Jerusalem Film Festival; and to Mihal Brezis and Oded Binun with Dead Language, that also screened at the Tribeca film festival and won the best script award at the Jerusalem Film Festival. Good Luck in Tallinn! 09/11/25 "The Sea" wins 5 awards, including Best Film, at the Israeli Academy Award As part of the Ophir Israeli Academy Awards 2025, that took place last week, "The Sea" - written and directed by Shai Carmeli Pollack and developed at the Lab's 5th Edition - won 5 awards, including Best Film and Best Script. The film will represent Israel at the Oscar Academy Awards. "Dead Language" by Mihal Brezis and Oded Binnun, developed at the Lab's 4th Edition, won Best Art Direction Award.
