- Come Closer
Come Closer Come Closer Tom Nesher Producers Haim Mecklberg, Estee Mecklberg Lab Edition 9 , 2021 SCENE PITCH Production Country Israel SYNOPSIS When Eden's brother tragically dies, her grief spirals into obsession after discovering his secret girlfriend. A haunting exploration of love, loss and fixation with stunning visuals. DIRECTOR'S NOTE Director’s Note This is a very personal story. A year and a half ago my beloved younger brother was killed in an accident. My brother and I looked like twins, and lived an adventure-filled life together. We didn't have secrets from each other, or at least so I thought. This is a story of loss. Immediately after my brother died, I started writing. Some of my friends and family said I should leave it alone, because it only causes me pain. But this exact pain is the one that Inbar chooses to experience over and over, while deepening her relationship with her brother’s girlfriend, Maya. As Roland Barthes put it in his book "Mourning Diary": “I ask for nothing but to live in my suffering”. This is a story about youth. Youth is twilight time. If childhood is morning, and adulthood is night, the characters in my story exist at sunset. They know for sure that something is over and they are toying reluctantly of the idea of a new beginning. The teens in the film are constantly examining their boundaries: sexuality, friendship, dependency, loyalty, humiliation, and self-sacrifice. This is a story about love. I once read that spousal love increases twice as much when the couple loves a third person together - their child. If so, can two lovers of the same “child” bond together through an odyssey, and thus discover true love with each other? This is the way I see my story. Finally aims to be an exuberant, feisty, provocative, lively cinematic experience. I know this might sound totally contradictory to what one might expect from a film that is driven by mourning. Yet life has very little respect to conventions and expectations, and in my mind, movies should follow suit. LOG LINE When Eden's brother tragically dies, her grief spirals into obsession after discovering his secret girlfriend. A haunting exploration of love, loss and fixation with stunning visuals. ŻEJTUNE ŻEJTUNE Alex Camilleri Producers Rebecca Anastasi (Luzzu Ltd), Ramin Bahrani (NORUZ FILMS) Lab Edition 10 , 2022 SCENE PITCH Production Country Malta SYNOPSIS A young woman set on leaving Malta meets an aging troubadour whose music reawakens a love for the country she is determined to escape. DIRECTOR'S NOTE As I did in my debut, LUZZU, I will take audiences past the touristic view of Malta — in ŻEJTUNE we’ll discover charming non-actors and a totally unique musical tradition. I want to surprise viewers with complex characters, unexpected humor, and a fresh twist on genre. ŻEJTUNE is a “neorealist musical” combined with a road movie. It’s also a deeply personal, universal story about finding hope after your world ends — a pandemic film that isn’t about the pandemic at all. I can’t wait to take you on the road to ŻEJTUNE. Safe Harbor Add a Title Add a Title Send Send Yoav Roeh, Aurit Zamir Producers: Yoav Roeh , Asaf Saban Safe Harbor Lab Edition 4 2025 PITCH LOGLINE Two Mossad agents pose as a married couple seeking to foster a nine-year-old Lebanese boy. The child is their gateway to recruit his mother; a woman deeply embedded in Hezbollah's organization. SYNOPSIS Mossad agents Yulia and Ori, late 20’s, are dispatched by their commander Amiram (60), to a peaceful Greek island. Their mission is to pose as a couple and foster Amin (9), a Lebanese survivor of the IDF missile attack which killed his father, an high ranking Hezbollah member. Amin was pulled from the rubble by his mother Salma (29), who then smuggled her traumatized son to a UN refuge in Greece, which promises a safe harbor for children from war zones. Yulia and Ori give Amin a home and gradually develop an emotional bond with him. This helps them gain access to Salma who comes to know and trust them. Unbeknownst to her, she supplies them with crucial information regarding a Hezbollah-planned attack. As the mission deepens, something else begins to shift. Caring for the child forges a genuine bond between Yulia and Ori. What began as sexual tension in their first meeting evolves into intimacy and emotional closeness. They lose the distance and clarity the mission demands, failing to notice that their cover has been compromised. As the operation unravels, Salma discovers the truth about them and is coerced into collaboration when they use a visit with Amin as leverage. When Salma is finally able to come to the island for the much-awaited visit with Amin, a Hezbollah elite unit assassinates her, and abducts Amin. Apparently, they discovered her breach of loyalty. Amin is once again orphaned and the agents are left missing key information regarding the upcoming attack. Haunted by guilt, Yulia and Ori break away from command, choosing to save Amin from his kidnappers. But then they discover a devastating truth- Amin's biological father, a high-ranking terrorist presumed dead—is alive. The couple are now torn between loyalty to their country and their new “family” and must confront the most agonizing question: What truly serves the child's best interest? WRITER'S STATEMENT SAFE HARBOR is led by two strong protagonists who feel a deep sense of belonging and loyalty to their country, who are willing to risk their lives for it. For whom the country is their true family. During the season, despite themselves, they create their own makeshift, improvised family, which starts through deception but develops into true emotion. As the needs of these two “families” conflict, our characters question the truths and ideologies their identities are built on. Through this narrative setup, we are interested in exploring the idea of family, loyalty and betrayal. As Israelis, like our characters, we are familiar with having complex relationships with our national identities. We believe these questions resonate with viewers worldwide today, Character driven and propulsive, SAFE HARBOR will explore the deep, emotional journeys of its characters through a twisty spy plot. The series uses the contrast between the cold, sterile world of espionage and the warm, hopeful moments of the couple's personal journey to visually underscore its themes. The dramatic contrast between the fast-paced tone and the psychological complexities will make this series as thought-provoking as entertaining. PRODUCER'S STATEMENT Shot fully on location in Greece, SAFE HARBOR will allow us to observe the complex reality of our region seemingly from the outside, from the safety of a peaceful Greek island, but in fact while looking deeply from within. The series throws a light on the lives of children in war zones, a topic which has become painfully relevant to us in the past years. Traumatized, orphaned, hurt- children are the most vulnerable victims of their parents’ wars and conflicts. SAFE HARBOR will reveal the cynical mechanisms behind the war machine, in which one child, Amin, is being used as collateral. During the season, our characters will have to face their own experiences as children, address how those shaped them, and lead them to reexamine their loyalties, hopefully giving Amin hope for a different future. Zig-zagging at fast speed between the personal and the national, the show will be as compelling as it will be unsettling, it’s power stemming from viewers connection to the strong characters who will ask themselves- is there a SAFE HARBOR to be found anywhere in this world? Or does that space exist only within their personal identity, within their own family? We look forward to embarking on this project which has a wide international appeal in terms of genre, language as well as tone, while maintaining core values of honest storytelling.
