In 1987, on the verge of his bar mitzvah, 12-year-old Boaz discovers his father is secretly gay. Fear and shame replace admiration, and as the AIDS crisis sparks mass panic, Boaz becomes convinced his father, Meir, is a danger to the family. In a desperate act, he outs him—tearing the family apart. Meir is cast out, and Boaz is left to become “the man of the house”, to his mother and two sisters. Nine years later, broke and emotionally drained by his codependent mother, Boaz confronts his choices and sets out to find his estranged father in the shadowy cruising parks of Tel Aviv—seeking closure, and perhaps a second chance.
