LOGLINE

Tohar (17), the youngest daughter of the chief rabbi in a small West Bank settlement, decides to end her most significant relationship, and break up with God.

SYNOPSIS

In a West Bank settlement, Tohar (17), the chief rabbi's daughter, decides to break up with God after her mother's Parkinson's diagnosis. She embarks on a 10-step liberation journey, breaking the fourth wall to address the Almighty directly. Navigating her Orthodox community, all-girls school, family expectations, and first love, Tohar challenges everything she's known. In a place where every decision is judged by both Heaven and Earth, can Tohar find her true self without losing it all?

WRITER'S STATEMENT

"Good Girls Go to Hell" is inspired by Tohar's upbringing in a settlement. This adaptation of her graphic novel follows 17-year-old Tohar as she navigates the clash between tradition and independence. With raw honesty and sharp humor, we witness her struggle against family expectations and community norms while grappling with her evolving beliefs. It's a love letter to every misfit and doubter who's felt trapped by circumstances. Imagine "Fleabag" in a settlement or "Derry Girls" with a kippa - a story as contradictory, messy, and beautifully human as life itself.

PRODUCER'S STATEMENT

From the moment I encountered "Good Girls Go to Hell" by emerging talents Bar and Tohar, I was captivated. The playful title belies a profound coming-of-age story set in a world seemingly distant from my own—a large religious family on the fringes of Israeli society. Yet, Tohar's original dialogue with her "imaginary friend" God resonated deeply. This series promises to be a groundbreaking exploration of faith, family, and identity, told with wit and warmth. Bar and Tohar's authentic voices shine through, creating a story that's both uniquely local and globally relatable. Their fresh perspective offers a bold take on universal themes.
