  • Benjamin Freidenberg and Ihab Jadallah

Territory X Add a Title Add a Title Send Send Ayelet Kait and Amir Harel Producers: Ihab Jadallah , Benjamin Freidenberg Territory X Lab Edition 1 2022 PITCH LOGLINE A family drama about married LGBT Palestinians in East Jerusalem and their families, that focuses on Hussam, a gay, Muslim, Palestinian lawyer, a married father of two, who are all in the process of becoming naturalized Israeli citizens, decides along with his wife, to have the secret male lover he’s kept hidden from everyone, move in with them. SYNOPSIS The series takes place in the Beit Hanina neighborhood of East Jerusalem that borders Bethlehem to the south and Ramallah to the north. The neighborhood’s streets still aren’t considered Israeli territory. With large unpaved areas and public spaces, and unnumbered homes that don’t appear on the map, the Israeli bulldozers start entering the neighborhood and constructing buildings, erecting signs and opening schools that belong to the Israeli ministry of education. All of this takes place while families and homes are being evicted in order to make way for the new construction plan or having been bought out by Jewish settlers and right-wing organizations. The show focuses on a middle-class Palestinian family that’s at an important crossroads in its life – gaining their Israeli citizenship – when an unexpected drama occurs and catches them unprepared. The show’s main character - Hussam - a civil rights lawyer that represents stateless Palestinian clients, is experiencing the most profound personal crisis of his life. After years of hiding, he tells his wife about his relationship with Fuad, a younger man. Manal, a history school teacher at the Beit Hanina high school, isn’t surprised or distraught by his confession, she’s just concerned with how their extended family, neighbors and community might respond. She finds out that Fuad has been over to their house a few times and that the neighbors saw him, and that there’s a rumor going around that Manal and Fuad are having an affair. In order to refute the rumor, Manal has to act fast. Instead of getting divorced or demanding that Hussam break things off with Fuad, Manal and Hussam welcome him into their home and he moves into the small unit in their backyard, in order to keep their relationship and family intact and to prevent any further gossip. They hide Hussam and Fuad’s relationship and present him as one of Hussam’s clients they decided to provide shelter for as a humanitarian gesture. They enjoy the encouragement and support of their inner circles, but their children, Aadil and Hafza (an 11-year-old boy and 13-year-old girl) catch on to what’s really happening in their family right away. The boy defends his parents and Fuad, while the daughter rebels against their narrative and tries to expose their secret. The family finds out about couples and families that share the same lifestyle; that keep a secret from their surroundings, while one of the parents is either a homosexual man or a lesbian woman. Hussam and Fuad find themselves in the secret LGBT circles of Bethlehem and Ramallah, when their secret is revealed to a closed off group of married Palestinian Lesbians and homosexuals that are married to one another for show, or keep the third member of their relationship within the family. These aren’t young people in their 20s, but people with families in their 30s-50s that didn’t run away from home, or move to Tel Aviv or abroad. The identity turmoil they experience is just one part of a larger complex Palestinian drama that’s contains many voices; in the tension between Christians and Muslims, between nationalists and communists, between revolutionaries, activists and conservatists. The characters’ naturalization process includes a declaration of loyalty to the state of Israel and giving up one identity in favor of another, albeit a more promising and financially secure one. But the absurd political, religious, sexual, nationalistic, personal and collective identity confluence - that forces people to fit into a single fixed category, will manifest in this family drama in comical, absurd and touching scenes, that illuminate the family unit in a new, wild, unique and subversive light WRITER'S STATEMENT PRODUCER'S STATEMENT LOOKING FOR Back To Participants HOME SERIES LAB WHO'S WHO MENTORS PROFESSIONAL GUESTS JURY ADVISORY BOARD PARTICIPANTS PARTICIPATION APPLICATION RULES & REGULATIONS FAQ PARTICIPATION APPLICATION RULES & REGULATIONS PARTICIPANTS OBLIGATIONS PARTICIPATION REGULATION SERIES LAB PARTICIPANTS MENTORS PROFESSIONAL GUESTS JURY PARTICIPATION APPLICATION RULES & REGULATIONS FAQ SERIES LAB FILM LAB MENTORS JURY DECISION MAKERS SCOUTS AND PITCHING PROFESSIONAL GUESTS PARTICIPANTS & PROJECTS LAB FILMS PARTICIPATION APPLICATION PARTICIPANTS OBLIGATIONS RULES & REGULATIONS FILM FAQ FILM LAB HOME TEAM NEWS LABS

  • Aurit Zamir and Shiri Nevo Fridental

The Mouth The Mouth Screenwriters: Aurit Zamir, Shiri Nevo Fridental Producer: Yoav Roeh , Gum Films Language: English, Spanish, Yiddish Format: 8 Episodes x 50 Minutes Send PITCHDECK LOGLINE The story of two Jewish women, forced into sex work in early 20th century Buenos Aires by the Jewish criminal organization “Zwi Migdal”, inspired by the true story of the woman who brought it down. SYNOPSIS Leah, 28, and Mimi, 19, were both trafficked by "Zwi Migdal" into prostitution in Buenos Aires, far from their homeland and families. Each woman forges her own path to survival: Leah teams up with the only decent cop in the city, working undercover in the brothel to bring down the ruthless organization, while Mimi claws her way up in the male-dominated world of trafficking. Leah and Mimi’s relationship evolves and transforms, as one woman's mission risks everything the other has worked for. WRITER'S STATEMENT A hundred years have passed since Raquel Lieberman brought down “Zwi Migdal”, the feminist revolution has changed the world, yet sex trafficking continues. By turning the lens to the past, we ask to look at the present. As feminist creators in 2024 we are committed to the stories of the victims of “Zwi Migdal”. The use of a compelling true story, with the stylistic tone of a mob/crime series, will create the necessary distance for viewers to meet this painful topic. But most importantly, with all its darkness, “The Mouth” will remind us individuals can, in fact, change history. ABOUT THE WRITERS Aurit Zamir is an award-winning writer and producer. She wrote and created the series THE TRUTH with Dafna Levine (Euphoria) which sold to Canal+, AMC and more. She wrote and directed the short film BABYSITTER, which won Best Short Film at the Haifa Film Festival and Best Director at Oscar qualifying RIFF. She is currently developing the feature film BITCH with the support of the Israel Film Fund. Shiri Nevo Fridental is a writer, director and former criminal lawyer at the district attorney’s office. Her debut feature film ALL I CAN DO premiered at the Jerusalem Film Festival 2022 and participated in film festivals in Europe, USA and Canada, after being developed at the 2019 Sam Spiegel Lab. Shiri’s passion for pre WW2 Jewish culture is apparent in THE LAST KLEZMERS feature film in development. She lectures on film at Minshar for Art and is a script adviser at the Israel Film Fund. PRODUCER'S STATEMENT The Mouth is a character based, propulsive crime drama with the potential to move and excite audiences internationally, while raising questions about the world we live in. It’s a series that pushes the boundaries of the genre in which it operates, an ambitious co production, universal in story as well as theme, which can have a meaningful impact worldwide. As a producer, as well as a viewer, this is the television I’m passionate about. PRODUCER PROFILE Gum Films is a Tel Aviv based production house owned by Yoav Roeh & Aurit Zamir. Their slate includes the award-winning films: THE FUTURE (Tribeca FF 2023). DELEGATION (Berlin FF 2023). ASIA (Tribeca FF-Nora Ephron Award, Best Actress & Best Cinematography, 9 Ophir awards including Best Film). THE TESTAMENT (Venice FF, Haifa FF- Best Film) OFF WHITE LIES (Berlinale FF, Palm Springs FF) and the series: THE MISSING FILE 2 seasons for Kan 11 and Keshet International. • Boaz Frenkel

The Widow's Detective Add a Title Add a Title Send Send Eitan Mansuri Producers: , Boaz Frenkel The Widow's Detective Lab Edition 3 2024 PITCH LOGLINE An ultra-Orthodox PI from Brooklyn is hired by a young widow to find her missing brother-in-law to perform a "Halitza," a religious ceremony that frees her from the obligation to marry her late husband's brother, thus freeing her to remarry SYNOPSIS Simcha (40), An ultra-Orthodox PI from Brooklyn, is hired by a young widow to find her missing brother-in-law for a "Halitza” ceremony. The case takes a dark turn when he discovers his client is an impostor and that her operator was murdered. Now the prime suspect, Simcha embarks on a fateful journey to find the mysterious brother and clear his name. This leads him all the way to Hamburg's secular nightlife, where he finds himself embroiled in a deep corrupted inheritance battle within a large Hasidic court and uncovers a secret bigger than expected. WRITER'S STATEMENT The Widow’s Detective is a Jewish and cynical version of American film noir movies from the 1930s and 1940s and neo-noir films from the 1970s to the present day. The encounter of this genre with the mysterious, closed, crowded, and non-individualistic ultra-Orthodox enclave of Williamsburg creates a connection that produces an ironic gap filled with dark and mysterious tones. This world becomes both a haven and a prison for characters who navigate secrets and have clashing expectations. With high-contrast lighting in narrow alleys and dimly-lit yeshivas, the series explores faith and identity amid mystery. It's Shtisel meets Chinatown, probing the tension between modernity and tradition. PRODUCER'S STATEMENT When we encountered Boaz Frankel's previous works, it was clear to us that he had a unique vision and a deep understanding of the complexities within the worlds he portrays and we were very eager to work with him on this project. "The Widow's Detective" stands out by merging the intricacies of a Hasidic Jewish community with the timeless appeal of a film noir detective story. This fusion offers a fresh and distinctive perspective. Boaz’s film noir-inspired lens adds depth and intensity, promising a visually striking and emotionally compelling experience that we believe will captivate audiences worldwide. We are incredibly excited to bring this project to light and share it with the audience.
