- Rotem Kapelinsky
The Subject The Subject Screenwriter: Rotem Kapelinsky Producer: Naomi Levari, Saar Yogev, Guy Hudes , Black Sheep Productions Language: Hebrew Format: Send PITCHDECK LOGLINE Seeking salvation, an ultra-Orthodox homosexual entrusts his fate to a contentious psychologist, becoming the centrepiece of an ethically dubious virtual reality conversion experiment. SYNOPSIS Nathan Sheinfeld, an ultra-Orthodox Jew from New York, deeply loves his family, his job, and God, but loathes himself. Seeking redemption following another clandestine homosexual encounter, he journeys to Jerusalem to find Josh Sokolovsky, a controversial therapist who once helped him with his perversion, but has since disappeared. Josh, who now utilizes innovative ""kosher"" VR sessions featuring female avatars to teach Yeshiva students about future marital intimacy, refuses to treat Nathan again. However, recognizing Nathan's profound distress, he proposes a temporary solution: Nathan can join his clinic as a female avatar, which Josh believes might offer him some solace. While Nathan finds some peace in his new role, Josh rekindles his lifelong mission to “cure” homosexuality and employs an ethically dubious conversion therapy on Nathan within the virtual realm, without his consent or knowledge. When Nathan uncovers that he has been unwittingly made a test subject, he chooses not to flee. Driven by a burning desire for ""rectification"", Nathan is even prepared to face death. WRITER'S STATEMENT ״The Subject״ occurs ״later today״ and captures my greatest fear- that we are marching toward a world where tools from the future will be used to impose values from a biblical past, and cloud the present with dystopian shades. In the sphere between man, technology, and religion, ״The Subject״ deals with redemption" as a seductive but dangerous concept, that is centered both on religious thought and secular enchantment with innovation. Nathan, the protagonist, is so determined to correct himself that he rejects a stable and loving life with Deborah his wife, and entrusts himself to Josh who offers him a religious, psychological, and technological solution, proving that under the promise of correction and redemption, these tools from such doctrines are not contradictory, but rather merge into a single and dangerous struggle. The "conversion therapy" Nathan undergoes not only raises questions about our ability to reshape a person but primarily whether we have the moral right to develop such tools. The plot unfolds through the perspectives of the three characters, capturing religious and patriarchal tension; Josh is the father, Deborah is the mother and Nathan is the torn son. Set in a fluid world where old and new, masculine and feminine, real and virtual converge, the series' visual style blends gaming and realistic drama to craft a layered aesthetic, ethical, and emotional landscape. Spanning science fiction, psychological thriller, and intimate drama, The Subject invites viewers to walk the fine line between redemption and destruction, offering a human solution that does not seek to change people or use powerful tools, but only the power of love and acceptance of people as they are. The Lampshade The Lampshade Screenwriter: Tomer Shushan Producer: Yoav Gross , Yoav Gross Productions Language: English, Hebrew, German Format: 8 Episodes x 52 Minutes Send PITCHDECK LOGLINE Omer Atias, a private investigator, is sent to Berlin by a dying Holocaust survivor to retrieve a lampshade crafted from his skin, plunging into a perilous Nazi underworld to honor his final wish to be buried whole. SYNOPSIS Omer Atias, 29, a hesitant private investigator, is sent to Berlin by the dying Holocaust survivor Joseph Adler to retrieve a mysterious lampshade. As Omer delves deeper into his investigation, he discovers that the lampshade was crafted by Ilse Koch, the notorious wife of Buchenwald’s commander, and made from Joseph's own skin. Immersed in a dark underworld of secret auctions and neo-Nazi conspiracies, Omer’s journey to fulfill Joseph’s last wish—to be buried whole—turns into a struggle for survival. WRITER'S STATEMENT As a film student, I volunteered with a Holocaust survivor foundation, where I met Joseph, a Buchenwald survivor. His haunting stories of Ilse Koch, the "Witch of Buchenwald," and her grim legacy human-skin artworks stayed with me. Years later, I met Alexa, a German volunteer, and we fell in love. Visiting her family in Bavaria, I sensed the lingering shadows of history—hidden relics and unspoken guilt. One day, I accidentally entered the wrong room and found Nazi memorabilia and photos of her high-ranking SS grandfather. These experiences inspired me to create "The Lampshade," a Berlin-based detective series where history's dark echoes haunt the present. ABOUT THE WRITER Tomer Shushan is an Israeli writer and film director, a graduate of Minshar School of Art, Tel Aviv. His short film WHITE EYE was nominated for the 2021 Academy Award for Best Live Action Short Film, screened at over 180 film festivals globally, and won 61 awards. A member of the American Academy since 2021, he has written for series including FAUDA (Season 4). Currently, he is developing the feature film SONAR with 150 by Warner Media. PRODUCER'S STATEMENT At Yoav Gross Productions, we are committed to exploring the depths of history and its lingering effects on the present, particularly the Holocaust, through storytelling that is both unique and profoundly moving. Our founder, the grandson of a Holocaust survivor, carries a personal connection to this dark chapter of human history, inspiring our dedication to addressing it in ways that challenge conventional narratives. Yoav Gross Productions is dedicated to telling these stories with authenticity and creativity, ensuring that the Holocaust is remembered and explored in ways that provoke thought and discussion, honoring the past while engaging with the future. PRODUCER PROFILE Yoav Gross Productions, established in 2000 by Israeli TV industry leader Yoav Gross, has become a global entertainment powerhouse. - Aleeza Chanowitz
Big Crater Big Crater Screenwriter: Aleeza Chanowitz Producer: Meny Aviram , Kastina Communications Language: Hebrew, English Format: 9 Episodes x 30 Minutes Send PITCHDECK LOGLINE Anxious about the future of the world, very pregnant Devorah (35) attends a wilderness survival course. But before she learns how to survive mother nature, she’ll first have to survive her own mother. SYNOPSIS Pregnant Devorah (35) is distressed about losing herself and ending up like her needy mother after birth. Instead of “falling down the stairs”, she signs up for a two-month wilderness survival course on an ecological farm in the Israeli desert. Just as she eases into communal life, Devorah’s mother Deedee (60) joins the course, ruining her plans. When Devorah goes into labor before the course is over, she accepts that to live is to take a risk, and that ending up like her mother isn’t so bad. WRITER'S STATEMENT When ISIS was a thing, I Marie Kondo-ed my belongings and joined an ecological farm. Over the years I have exchanged some anxieties for others, though some have steadfastly remained: Holocaust II and climate change. Despite that, I had a child; I'm optimistic- the world can become a better place. But the experience of childbirth brought on the new fear of turning into my parents. And this, in a way, is the most challenging fear; no composting or forged papers will save me. This series is based on my experiences from the farm and my impossible yearning to change my destiny and be my own person. ABOUT THE WRITER Aleeza Chanowitz is the creator, writer, and lead actor in the 10 episode tv series CHANSHI on HOT, produced by Kastina Communications. "Big Crater" is her second project with Kastina. Brooklyn born and raised, she moved to Israel in 2011 and attended the Sam Spiegel Film School in Jerusalem. Her first short film MUSHKIE premiered at Berlinale 2016. She currently lives in Tel Aviv with her hot Israeli husband and their gorgeous daughter. PRODUCER'S STATEMENT Aleeza is one of the most talented and promising screenwriters and directors in Israel. Our mutual success with her first series, "Chanshi", which was the first Israeli series shown at Sundance festival, encouraged us to try harder. I believe that "Big Crater" has a huge potential and is Aleeza's big next step: making a name for herself in her native America. PRODUCER PROFILE Kastina is one of Israel's leading production companies. It's docuseries THE ONE, about the Israeli Air Force in the Yom Kippur War, premiered in Sep' 2023 and broke viewing records. Other projects include the first season of FAUDA; BLOODY MURRAY, winner of the Best Comedy Award in the 2022 Series Mania TV festival; CHANSHI the first Israeli drama series accepted to Sundance Festival; and #NOVA, a record-breaking film about the music festival that ended with a massacre. It's latest documentary, Sheryl Sandberg's SCREAMS BEFORE SILENCE, was viewed by millions worldwide. From their grandmother’s decaying rural home to the sterile luxury of their aunt’s estate, each stop reshapes them. Bound by a fierce loyalty, the brothers set off to find their estranged father—only to confront the deeper weight of grief, affection, and the quiet ache of not having a place to call their own. DIRECTOR’S NOTE This film was born from a childhood memory—an act of blind trust between brothers that ended in cruelty. Told through Ian’s eyes, it follows two siblings navigating grief, absence, and the quiet, often invisible violences of family life. As their bond begins to crack, they confront a world that feels increasingly unjust. Childhood here isn’t innocence, but the first brush with betrayal and beauty alike. The film lingers in that space—fragile, uncertain—where memory and emotion shape who we become. ABOUT THE FILMMAKER Sacha Amaral is a Brazilian director, screenwriter, and teacher based in Argentina.
